The Council has adopted the creation of the Section of Hematology which will
- Allow all hematologists across Europe to be recognised under the same definition,
- Provide a formal platform for hematologists to contribute to UEMS;
- deliberations;
- Support harmonised European Training Requirements (ETRs);
- Strengthen the visibility and influence of Hematology in European healthcare systems.
General Hematology is recognised as a specialty by 20 EU Member states, and there are over 10,000 practicing hematologists in Europe.
They now have a proper frame and recognition within the UEMS to work together on developing an ETR and further activities for the benefit of the hematologists, the training of future practitioners and ultimately patients.
