As a signatory of the EMOS statement, UEMS, together with FEMS, AEMH, CEOM, EJD, UEMO underlines the urgent need to recognise the medical profession as an arduous occupation.

The realities of medical practice, including irregular and prolonged working hours, night and shift work, high responsibility and constant exposure to risk, have a cumulative impact on physicians’ health and well-being. Acknowledging this reality is essential to protect both doctors and patients and to ensure continuity and quality of care.

UEMS and the other signatory organisations call on European and national authorities to translate this recognition into concrete and measurable policy actions, supporting safer working conditions, effective occupational health measures and sustainable medical careers across Europe.
